Circus Champions NJ Libraries

As a result of their reading accomplishments in New Jersey’s statewide reading program, one hundred children at The Hasbrouck Heights Free Public Library received a one-of-a-kind special reward performance visit by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey clowns and NJ Library Champion, Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson, on Tuesday, March 9, 2010.

The clowns entertained the children with their unique brand of circus silliness, and invited several children to participate.

Johnathan talked with the children about the importance of reading, getting an education and how he became Ringmaster for The Greatest Show On Earth!

They answered children’s questions about the circus. They invited ticket holders to arrive an hour earlier and meet performers and animals, learn circus skills and enjoy a taste of the performance before the show starts.

Library Director, Mimi Hui and Library Board President, Lisa Traina, had Johnathan sign the book plates on "Elmer and Friends" and "Big Cats" for The Library. They also presented him with these books.

Mayor Rose Heck gave Johnathan the ceremonial keys to Hasbrouck Heights.

Parents took photos of their children with Johnathan and the clowns. Bags of popcorn and juice were served.

This event was exclusive to Hasbrouck Heights.

The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority has partnered with the New Jersey State Library to promote reading and reward participation in the State Library’s NJ Library Champion program (NJlibrarychampions.org). Library Champions are people who love their libraries and are interested in preserving library service in New Jersey.

The program spans across every library in the State of New Jersey and offers accomplished participants an opportunity to win tickets to upcoming Meadowlands Sports Complex events and special visits from show characters.

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey presented Barnum’s FUNundrum at the IZOD Center, March 10-14, 2010. This is the 200th anniversary of the birth of the legendary P.T. Barnum, "The Greatest Showman on Earth" and his living legacy, "The Greatest Show on Earth!" ###
